Caneiros Beach Amenities | Ferragudo – Portugal
The project is located along the Algarve coast, in an extremely delicate landscape shaped by cliffs, beaches and strict environmental regulations. The intervention replaces a demolished old restaurant and completely redefines the relationship between architecture, beach access and the natural landscape.
The new structure, raised on stilts, detaches itself from the concavity of the cliff previously occupied by the original restaurant, assuming a more open and legible presence in the landscape. The building is organised around a central core housing services and facilities for the bathing areas, while public and restaurant functions develop along the edges. The project redefines beach access through three different levels: an exposed zone for retail, an intermediate area for bather support, and a more sheltered zone dedicated to bar and restaurant.
From a constructive standpoint, the project uses a lightweight treated timber structure composed of posts, beams, walkways and handrails. The elevated building reduces contact with the natural ground, limiting environmental impact and preserving the fragile coastal ecosystem. The white surfaces of the lightweight enclosures contrast with the warm materiality of the wood and the natural colours of the landscape. The reversible and adaptable construction approach responds to the temporary and sensitive nature of coastal interventions.
