Apartment at Almirante Reis | Lisbona

The project unfolds within the attic of a 1906 building, taking shape as a direct dialogue between eras, construction techniques, and ways of living. The goal is not merely to improve the original living conditions, but to reinterpret them, keeping the historical memory of the structure visible.

Elements such as stone masonry, irregular walls, wooden beams, and roof pillars are exposed and enhanced, becoming tangible traces of the past. The project adopts a rigorous, detail-oriented language, choosing pine wood as the dominant material to ensure continuity and harmony with the other elements.

The spatial transformation is radical. A fragmented apartment with low ceilings gives way to an open configuration, with increased ceiling heights achieved by recovering the attic space. The heart of the home becomes a fluid central space that organizes functions, improves visual relationships, and amplifies natural light and ventilation along the east-west axis.

The kitchen abandons its enclosed configuration and integrates into the main space through a large work surface that dialogues with the dining area. The bathroom is repositioned internally, freeing the openings toward the exterior and introducing a distinctive architectural element: a volume clad in polished brass, lit by a skylight that creates a “tunnel of light” effect.

The sleeping area is conceived as a flexible and scenographic space, which can be opened or closed by a golden velvet and silk curtain sliding along the brass wall. The project is completed by a rich material and chromatic palette: wallpaper, decorative ceramics, and stone contribute to building a coherent narrative between architecture and interior design.
