BOW | Lisbon – Portugal

The BOW project was born from the transformation of a building originally designed for offices and retail into a new contemporary residential complex in the heart of Lisbon, overlooking Praça Marquês de Pombal and with a privileged view over Parque Eduardo VII. The intervention preserves commercial activities on the lower levels while converting the upper floors into apartments, completely reinterpreting the relationship between building, city and natural light.

The design strategy focuses on the redesign of the facade, completely rethought through wider openings, recessed balconies and a new architectural skin composed of assembled elements that overlay the original envelope. New metallic elements, parapets and window frames become an integral part of the architectural language, contributing depth and character to the composition.

The rooftop is also completely redefined: the old pitched roof is removed and replaced by a volume consistent with the building’s new identity. The openings, previously small and set back, are enlarged and transformed into true views onto the exterior, improving the visual relationship between apartments and the urban landscape. The project works on permeability, light and continuity between inside and outside, giving the building a new residential life.
