Aegli Hotel Volos | Greece
Aegli Hotel is the historic hotel of Volos, born from the union of two landmark buildings: the Pallas Hotel, inaugurated in 1929 as the city's oldest hotel, and the Aegli Hotel, designed by architect Kassiopoulos and opened in 1938 as a distinctive monument of Art Nouveau. Located at the most privileged spot in the city centre, overlooking the port and the Pagasitikos Gulf, the hotel is an unmissable architectural and cultural landmark of Volos.
Both buildings, listed as protected monuments, were united at the end of the 1990s and radically reconstructed. The most recent intervention, launched in 2011 and completed in 2016, gave the hotel a more boutique character while showing the utmost respect for its original architecture. As stated during the project presentation: “We tried to connect two different architectural trends the Pallas building is Art Deco and the Aegli is a distinctive monument of Art Nouveau and aimed to give the hotel a more boutique character while showing the utmost respect to its original architecture, as both buildings are listed.”
Original elements such as the stairwell, the railings and exterior details have been preserved. The 72 rooms, including 6 luxury suites, were fully refurbished in 2012 and 2016 with all contemporary comforts. The hotel offers unique views over Volos port and is the ideal starting point for the Sporades Islands: Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos.
