Overlooking the Aegean amid the pine forests of the Sithonia peninsula, the Danai Beach Resort & Villas stands between the villages of Nikiti and Metamorfosis, in the quietest corner of Halkidiki, approximately 45 minutes from Thessaloniki International Airport. What today ranks among Greece's most exclusive luxury resorts began in the summer of 1976 as "House Danai", a small four-room guesthouse with brick-built beds, opened by Danai and Otto Riefenstahl on a green plot of land at a time when sea-facing soil was worth less than olive groves
Over five decades, those four rooms grew into a complex of 56 suites and villas individually designed by founder Danai Riefenstahl, each refined annually during the winter recess in a process of continuous improvement that has never ceased. The property extends across 40,000 m² of lush Mediterranean gardens of pine trees, lavender and wildflowers, with a 375-metre private beach equipped with cabanas and a dedicated beach team. Every suite is uniquely furnished with classical artworks, gilded mirrors, working marble fireplaces, Egyptian cotton bedding and marble bathrooms stocked with Acqua di Parma products; many feature private infinity pools. In 2025-2026 the Pool Suites, main pool and private beach underwent a redesign led by London-based studio Muza Lab: interiors in white-painted timber, woven raffia, natural stone and olive leaf motifs reinterpret the surrounding coastal landscape.
The dining offer is among the finest in northern Greece: The Squirrel, with only five tables, is considered one of the country’s outstanding restaurants under the direction of chef Vasilis Mouratidis; Andromeda occupies an iconic marble terrace for contemporary Mediterranean fine dining; and Anithos serves Greek cuisine and fresh seafood directly by the beach. The Bakery House, Philosophy Bar and The Noble House complete the picture, the latter inaugurated in 2023 as a 1,700-label wine cellar representing Greece’s largest private wine collection. The resort also maintains a fleet of private yachts, The Bird (82-foot Sanlorenzo), The Blue Bird (60 ft) and the new Birdie (48 ft, 2026), together with a Kids Club, spa, tennis courts and a water sports centre. The Danai has been managed by the Riefenstahl family for three generations, with Kimon Riefenstahl as current Managing Director.
