Abu Dhabi Golf Club | Abu Dhabi
Located in Abu Dhabi's Sas Al Nakhl district, a short drive from the international airport and the CBD, the Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort & Spa sits alongside Abu Dhabi Golf Club also known as "The National" the first golf course in the UAE capital, inaugurated in October 2000 to designs by veteran Swiss architect Peter Harradine. The iconic falcon-wing-shaped clubhouse, also by Harradine, anchors the complex that hosts the annual Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, a PGA European Tour event. The 27-hole championship course (par 72, 7,440 yards for the main layout) is managed by Troon Golf and underwent significant upgrades in 2011
The hotel was conceived in 2007 by developer TDIC (Tourism Development & Investment Company) and opened on 1 November 2011. The architectural project is signed by GREC Architects who developed the project from an initial concept by Northpoint with the goal of creating a sophisticated backdrop for the golf course landscape without imposing on it. Chiselled gold limestone exteriors, minimalist and contemporary interiors crafted from petrified and reclaimed wood, and warm desert-hued accents integrate the structure into its surroundings.
The 172 rooms and suites across five floors all face the golf course. The property includes the Heavenly Spa by Westin, six indoor and outdoor dining outlets (including a Moroccan restaurant and a sports lounge), a lagoon-shaped leisure pool, children’s pool, tennis courts, meeting rooms and a ballroom for up to 1,500 guests. The resort received the “Best of Category Hotels” award at the IIDA Middle East Interior Design Competition in 2013.
