Porto Palace Hotel | Thessaloniki – Greece
Overlooking the commercial port of Thessaloniki along 26 Oktovriou Street, Porto Palace Hotel & Conference Center is one of the most striking examples of industrial conversion in northern Greece. The building, constructed in 1913 as part of a complex of tanneries that supplied fine leathers to European, American and Egyptian markets, was recognised in 1994 as a preservable structure and listed as a modern monument of the city.
Purchased in 1992 by the Mamada brothers business group, the building underwent a long and meticulous restoration designed by architect V. Zachariadis with interior design by E. Dalaki. The intervention renewed the internal spaces while preserving intact the industrial character and grandeur of the exposed brick architecture, a symbol of Thessaloniki’s tannery era. The hotel officially opened on 9 September 2005.
The 175 rooms and suites Comfort, Superior, Business, Executive, Vice Presidential and Presidential offer views over the commercial port or the city. The Zaytinya Restaurant and P-Bar complete the dining offer. The crown jewel of the property is the historic Grand Pietra Hall, the largest conference hall in northern Greece with a capacity of 2,500 participants, enriched by the presence of coastal railway tracks from 1893 discovered during renovation works. The panoramic roof garden offers breathtaking views over the Thermaikos Gulf.
