VidaMar Madeira Hotels & Resorts | Funchal – Portugal
Perched on the cliffs of Madeira's southern coast, in the São Martinho area just minutes from central Funchal, VidaMar Madeira Hotels & Resorts comprises twin minimalist buildings that resemble two ocean liners docked on the Atlantic. The name itself, a fusion of "Vida" (life) and "Mar" (sea), captures the resort's philosophy: a constant dialogue between architecture and ocean
Completed in 1999 as Crowne Plaza Resort Madeira, the hotel owes its interior identity to the celebrated Portuguese designer and architect Daciano da Costa, who curated the interior architecture of the public areas (lobby, reception, lounges, conference rooms, bars and restaurants, indoor pools) and the custom furniture for rooms and suites, seeking contrasts of materials, colours and textures to enhance every spatial solution.
In 2006 the property was acquired by Grupo CS for €66 million and reopened renovated on 4 May 2007 as CS Madeira Atlantic Resort & Sea Spa, before adopting the current VidaMar brand. The 300 rooms, all sea-facing with private balconies, overlook either the subtropical gardens or the ocean directly. The resort boasts the most extensive sea platform on Madeira with direct ocean access, three salt-water infinity pools and the MAR Thalasso Spa, dedicated to wellness with treatments inspired by the Atlantic spirit. The dining offer includes five restaurants, among them the Ocean buffet, Sabor a Mar, Casa das Espetadas, the Koi Sushi Bar and the Italian restaurant Mama Mia by Giovanni.
