Gfell | Fiè allo Sciliar – Italy

In the heart of the Dolomites, at the foot of the Sciliar, the Gfell project was born from the desire to expand the offer of the Schönblick restaurant by transforming it into a complete hospitality structure, without altering the surrounding Alpine landscape. NOA's challenge was to integrate into the territory almost invisibly: the new hotel is built underground, carved into the natural slope and positioned beneath a restored historic barn that remains the architectural reference above ground.

Guests experience something remarkable: living inside the hill, with all rooms facing the valley, immersed in nature yet perfectly lit thanks to a continuous glazed facade that opens the underground space toward the Dolomite panorama.

The project combines respect for the landscape, reinterpretation of rural tradition and contemporary subterranean architecture. The hotel is completely integrated into the ground, with a green roof and an invisible profile from above. The restored barn is transformed into a warm and authentic welcoming space.

The interiors are characterised by natural materials, essential lines and a warm atmosphere recalling South Tyrolean rusticity reinterpreted in a contemporary key. The constant relationship between inside and outside amplifies the sensation of inhabiting the mountain and spending a stay within the landscape, rather than simply looking out at it.
