Two-Family House | Emmen – Switzerland

The project was born from the aim of creating a two-family house that would integrate harmoniously into the existing urban fabric of Emmen, fitting into the neighbourhood morphology and completing the plot void in a discreet and coherent way. The building develops over two above-ground floors and a habitable attic, acting as a mediating element between the five-storey buildings to the west and the two-storey ones to the east.

The main volume, which houses the dwellings, is set on a smaller exposed concrete base, distinguished by its materials and proportions. The open ground floor serves as the entrance and accommodates parking, in continuity with the pre-existing garages. The two residential units on the upper floors are served by a staircase with lift.

Thanks to the east-west orientation, the apartments are designed on an open-plan layout, with well-lit and fluid spaces. The circular openings introduce a playful and dynamic language within the regular structure. The first-floor apartment is distinguished by its protected terraces above street level, while the penthouse features a central loggia around which the living area develops.

The pitched roof echoes the local typology and reinforces the dialogue with the context. The plastered surfaces in natural tones and the exposed concrete details give the building a balance between solidity and lightness. The interiors, intentionally essential, leave room for the residents’ personality, focusing on neutral and luminous materials.
